OXFORD, STONEHENGE AND AVEBURY DAY TOURS

Don’t take our word for it, just see my testimonial from Collen of London, Ontario, Canada from my previous tour and see how I can customise your experience by adding something unique to the standard tour such as afternoon tea, punting, a special place to eat, Bicester village, nuclear bunker, narrow boat cruise, picnic by the river, short walk in the country or English gardens.

I have always had a fascination in anthropology, cosmology and metaphysics and have helped to perform a ceremony at the centre of Stonehenge with my Tibetan teacher at sunrise. There are many theories about the purpose of Stonehenge, Avebury and I am happy to share my thoughts and views. We start the tour in Oxford onto Uffington White Horse, a Bronze-Age silhouette of a horse carved out of the chalk hill. To the east lies Dragon Hill , a small hill where it is said St George, the patron saint of England , slew the dragon.

We go onto Avebury, which is a largest prehistoric site in the UK and built about 2500 BC, it predates Stonehenge and is easily accessible. A large circular bank and ditch houses large stones, many of the stones are still standing and you can touch them. We then travel onto Stonehenge which is a world heritage site and probably the most important prehistoric monument in the whole of Britain and has attracted visitors from earliest times. The Stonehenge that we see today is the final stage that was completed about 3500 years ago, but the first stage was started more than 5000 years ago.

“From the wonder of the ancient ruins of Stonehenge and Avebury to the nostalgia and beauty of Burgh Island, it was an inspirational tour. Russell proved to be more than a tour guide, providing an element of life coaching ‘on the go’, both individually and collectively.” Colleen Elliot, Brucefield, Canada
